Many people have heard of Platelet Rich Platelet or "PRP" before. Platelet Rich Fibrin or "PRF" is a similar concept and has many benefits in oral surgery. At Horizon Oral Surgery, we utilize PRF to aid in surgery and improve healing.
HOW DO YOU MAKE PRF?
During your surgery, one of our qualified nurses will obtain a small amount of your blood and collect it in a number of small tubes. These tubes are then spun according to a specific protocol to isolate the healing and growth factors from the rest of the blood cells and particles.
HOW IS PRF USED IN ORAL SURGERY?
Can be used in extraction sockets to improve healing
Can be used to prevent dry socket
Expedites healing in managing MRONJ
Mixed with bone grafting material to create "Sticky Bone"
Used to reduce risk of infection with bone grafting surgeries
Used during sinus augmentation as part of managing a membrane tear
Used at the harvest site during gum grafting surgery to reduce post-operative pain and speed up recovery
CAN I CONTRACT A DISEASE FROM PRF?
No. There is no risk of contracting a disease because PRF is made from your own blood and only used during your surgery. Any excess will be discarded.
Please contact our clinic at 905-553-6725 to learn more about how PRF may be an important adjunct for your surgery.
